Join as a proud supporter of AGAPE of NC

Worth It! is our annual giving campaign, running from October through December, when we urge you to pray over your ability to give an annual donation to AGAPE of NC. During this time, churches across North Carolina will come together and collect your special offerings. All of your gifts will support the mission of AGAPE of NC.

Positively Impacting Lives is Worth It!

Creative Ways to Give

Kids can challenge their parents to pledge support for achievement of goals or to match any money they have collected themselves. Churches can encourage each other to see who can raise the most funds. You might conduct a mini-fundraising campaign with family and friends online. The possibilities are endless!

Our annual “Worth It!” giving campaign supports the placement of foster and adoptive children across the state, the ongoing care and training of our foster and adoptive families, and our efforts to raise awareness of the services AGAPE of NC provides to children and families in North Carolina.

AGAPE of NC is a 501c3 organization. Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. In 2020, itemized deduction limits for individual taxpayers increased under the CARES Act. Please consult your financial advisor or tax preparer regarding the deductibility of any gift. You can find more information about planned giving to AGAPE of NC below. If you have any questions about your gift, please e-mail Keith Fortier, Director of Development.

Change a Child’s Life through your Gift!

Planned Giving

Since 1982, AGAPE of NC has opened its doors to thousands of children and families in need. Through the generosity of others, AGAPE of NC has been able to provide these children with safety, education, peace, spiritual guidance, and hope for a better future. AGAPE of NC’s supporters care deeply for the unique and special needs of the children of North Carolina.

When you make a Planned Gift (sometimes called a “Legacy” or “Deferred” Gift) – for example, through a Retirement Plan Designation, Donor Advised Funds, Estate Planning, Life Insurance, Stock, or Real Estate – you can positively impact children and families today and in the future while addressing your own needs and goals.

Please consult your attorney or other financial advisor to review the deductibility of any gifts or planned giving ideas and to prepare the proper documents.

An individual retirement account can be a great way to provide for your future and assuring that a future exists for the children of AGAPE of NC.

If you are 70½ years old or older, you can contribute a portion of your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as AGAPE of NC without having to pay income taxes on the money. This popular gift option is commonly called an IRA charitable rollover or qualified charitable distribution (QCD). A QCD should not count as income, and this reduction of your income level, may help lower the amount of your Social Security benefits subject to tax and decrease your exposure to a Medicare surtax. You may use your qualified gift to satisfy all or part of the required minimum distribution (RMD) from your retirement plan.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) are simple, tax-smart investment solutions for charitable giving. When you make an irrevocable contribution of cash, securities, or other appreciated assets to a DAF account with a public charity (ask your legal or financial advisor to recommend one), you are generally eligible to take a tax deduction. Your DAF account can be invested for tax-free growth, and you can recommend grants from your DAF account to qualified charitable organizations like AGAPE of NC.

A simple, flexible, and versatile way to ensure AGAPE of NC can continue its life-changing ministry for years to come is a gift, known as a Charitable Bequest, in your Will or Trust. You can make a Charitable Bequest by including appropriate language in your Will or Trust that states your desire to leave to AGAPE of NC a specific item, an amount of money, a gift contingent upon certain events, or a percentage of your estate.

By remembering AGAPE of NC with a Charitable Bequest in your Will or Trust, you are providing resources that will enable us to continue the mission of serving children and families with the healing love of Christ. Your gift also entitles you or your estate to claim applicable charitable tax deduction(s).

Life Insurance offers a simple and private way for you to contribute toward the mission of AGAPE of NC. It can be as simple as naming AGAPE of NC as a beneficiary to your policy. This approach may benefit your heirs too when policy proceeds can be handled separately from your estate (without having to pass through probate) and where distribution of policy proceeds to a nonprofit organization is exempt from estate tax.

Another approach could involve purchasing, or changing an existing policy, to name AGAPE of NC Inc. as the policy owner. Then, your annual contributions to cover the cost of maintaining that policy may qualify for a charitable tax deduction.

If you have owned a stock for more than 12 months and it has appreciated in value during that time, you would incur a capital gains tax by selling it. However, if you give that stock to AGAPE of NC as a gift, you can avoid the capital gains tax and get an income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the stock. This value is based on the average of the high and low price on the date of transfer. You will receive an acknowledgement letter from AGAPE of NC reflecting the determined value of your gift for your tax purposes.
Great opportunities exist through gifts of real estate that benefit you and help the children and families served by AGAPE of NC. A gift could include a personal residence, vacation home, farm, or other property that has appreciated in value.

Your appraiser would establish the market value of your gift. Your financial and legal advisors would determine the documents necessary for you to affect a real estate property transfer, establish a Life Estate or Charitable Remainder Trust if desired, and file for applicable tax deduction(s).

Due to unique circumstances that may be associated with a real estate gift, AGAPE of NC asks you to Call Us prior to the finalization of any plans. Each potential gift of real estate is reviewed by AGAPE of NC to make sure that both parties have addressed questions concerning liability and marketability issues.

Many companies and corporate foundations match gifts to non-profit organizations such as AGAPE of NC. Matching Gifts are a great way to increase your support without any additional out-of-pocket expense, and many employers also offer Payroll Deduct programs to make giving more convenient.

You can often double (or sometimes even triple) the value of your donation by simply notifying your employer of your gift to AGAPE of NC or sending a recurring donation each pay period via your employer’s Payroll Deduct program. You may be eligible to submit Matching Gift claims from both your own and your spouse’s employer for the same gift. Contact the human resources office at your employer, your spouse’s employer, or even your former employer if you are retired, to inquire about their Matching Gift programs.
