The Impact

Change the trajectory of generations.

Every child deserves stability and a safe home.

By providing a nurturing environment for a child in foster care, you are helping break cycles of trauma. Your commitment to help children feel seen and loved will alter the course of their lives, workplaces, communities, and future families.

Next Steps

How to Become a Foster Parent Through AGAPE of NC

1

Fill Out an Interest Form

If you’re thinking about fostering, fill out Agape’s interest form to let us know more about your family. Filling out this form isn’t a commitment to move forward; it’s simply your first step in discerning if this is the right fit for your family.

2

Talk to an Agape Team Member

Through an individualized screening phone call, we will answer your questions and help you decide if you’re ready to take the next step to see what fostering looks like.

3

Gain an Expert Guide

Once we’ve decided to move forward, you will be paired with one of our trusted trainers, who will act as your liaison as you navigate the responsibilities, expectations and treasures of fostering.

4

Complete Paperwork

Your Agape liaison will help you complete all the paperwork the state requires, including filing your background check, providing contact information for a required home fire inspection, and giving you forms to be completed by your primary care physician.

5

Go through
Foster Training

To become a licensed foster parent in North Carolina, you must take a 30-hour course, informing you about foster care and the child welfare system. Agape also offers additional training as specific needs arise.

6

Start
Fostering

Agape will send your completed paperwork to a state licensing body for review. If all regulations have been met, you will become a licensed foster parent. Once Agape receives your license, you can start accepting placements for children from any of the 100 counties in North Carolina.

In the meantime, check out our resource library here.
